Marcia K. Gingrich, 79, passed away February 13, 2016 in Lee’s Summit, MO. Visitation from 6:00-8:30 p.m., with Rosary at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, February 18; a Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, February 19, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO.
She was born on July 10, 1936 in Muncie, IN to Lois and John (Wooldridge) Cochran. She lived in Indiana and Michigan before moving to Denver, CO at the age of sixteen. She graduated from Wheat Ridge High School in 1954 and attended Colorado University from 1954-1957, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and dated Robert Redford.
Marcia met Joe Gingrich in college, married and they made their home in Kansas City, MO. She was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ and in 2001 she converted to Catholicism and joined St. Thomas More.
Marcia’s greatest love was her family, especially her four delightful granddaughters who provided her much joy and happiness. She loved her road trips to Denver with her girls. Sometimes they would have a “girls night out”, just the five of them, at a local restaurant.
Marcia had a ready smile, infectious laugh, and had the ability to make everyone feel at ease instantly befriending them. She always found the positive in everything, even after battling lung cancer. Her take from the experience was, “I met the nicest people through this journey.”
Marcia is survived by her son, Joe Gingrich IV; two daughters, Elizabeth Gingrich (Jonathan) Goede and Jill Gingrich (Chad) Kernodle; four grandchildren, Jessica Payton (Josh), Madison Gingrich, Katy and Karly Kernodle; great-grandson, Malik Salti and one-on-the-way; brother, John H. Cochran, M.D. of Denver, CO; sister, Judith Edwards of Wheat Ridge, CO; three nieces and four nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the John and Lois Cochran Oncology Fund, Lutheran Medical Center, 8300 W. 38th, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
