Marion grew up in Whittier, CA and graduated from James A. Garfield High School in 1945, during which time she aided the war effort after school by inspecting rivets of B-20 aircraft in the evening hours. She enjoyed going to the beach, dancing, spending time with close friends, and often spoke of going to the movies with her mom. One evening, during WWII, Marion met a young sailor on shore leave. Randall spent many months courting Marion through letters and postcards to win her heart. Following graduation she was united in marriage to Randall Hardin on March 11, 1945 in Los Angeles, CA. After marriage they traveled by train back to Missouri where they raised a family of four children, three sons and one daughter, (Frank, Daslie, Diana, and Kevin).
Marion was an active member of the Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and solos almost every Sunday as special music. She enjoyed being outdoors, especially when gardening and tending to her flowers on their 80 acre farm at Birch Tree, MO. For over 30 years, she was employed as a Certified Nurses Aid in Birch Tree, MO and then in Mountain Grove, MO where she later move after leaving the farm but before Randall’s passing in October 2006.
In 2010, she made her residence John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit, MO for eight and a half years to be close to family and friends where she continued to enjoy playing the piano by ear, entertaining others with her clever sense of humor, and casual conversations. She never had an ill word for anyone, was kind hearted, empathetic to others, and an amazing friend to all that knew her.
Marion was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and neighbor. She was a true monarch of the Hardin family and will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.
