Martha Courtney-Boblitt, 92, was born on November 23, 1933, the only child of Walter and Beulah Zumwalt. Affectionately known as Marty, she spent much of her early life in Kansas City, Missouri, where she developed close relationships and cherished memories.
Marty later moved with her husband Charles Miller to the southwestern United States, living in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Tempe, Arizona. She worked for many years as a cashier at Fry’s, demonstrating her commitment and work ethic. Driven by her desire to help others, Marty returned to school and graduated from Arizona State University and became a social worker. After retiring, she devoted her time to tutoring children from the AK-Chin Indian Reservation, a role she found especially rewarding and fulfilling. While living in Maricopa, she was asked to be on the Water Board, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
Marty is survived by her husband, Ted Boblitt of Maricopa, Arizona; and her three children, Teresa Haff of Lawrence, Kansas, Christine (Robert) Gisness of Roswell, Georgia, and Ken Miller of Lawrence, Kansas. She was a proud grandmother to Stacey (Mitchel) Jordan of Jackson, Mississippi, George Haff III of Lawerence, Kansas, and Morgan Miller of Phoenix, Arizona. Marty was also fortunate to have great-grandchildren, Anna and George Haff IV of Lawerence, Kansas, Miller Jordan of Jackson, Mississippi, and Isabel, Elizabeth, Cassandra, and Abigal Vaca all from California.
Marty’s vibrant personality and genuine love for people made her excel in her professional and personal life. She enjoyed dancing, cooking and gardening, and learned to play the piano. She met Ted at a dance, which marked the beginning of their relationship. Marty delighted in hosting parties, swimming, and engaging in meaningful conversations. She loved watching sports and attending baseball and football games. Even after being diagnoses with dementia, she remained cheerful, always smiling and maintained good spirits. Marty passed away peacefully, on March 24 2026, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
