Martha Medina Marquez, 56, of Independence, Missouri was born to Juanita Garcia and Carlos Velazquez on September 4, 1955. She passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at home with her immediate family surrounding her with love. She is survived by her daughters Nicole Cordova and Cristina Martinez, granddaughter Isabella Martinez, and devoted husband John Marquez. She is also survived by her son-in-laws Justin Cordova and Wilmer Martinez and best friends Margaret Kensinger and Kathy Donegan. She joins the angels and those that went before her, namely her parents and beloved son Michael Marquez.
She loved to travel and was obsessed with food. She made it a point to satisfy her sweet tooth and watched the Food Network religiously. Martha was known and loved by all to be feisty, easy to talk to and candidly funny. Through the latest years of her life and final moments, her scleroderma progressed but she maintained her unique personality. She was challenged daily with obstacles typically encountered by people much older than her, yet found the strength within herself to carry on as long as she could. Her sense of humor will live on through those who knew her. Martha’s "tell it like it is" attitude will never be forgotten!

God saw you getting tired, a cure was not to be.
So He put his arms around you and whispered, “Come with me.”
With tearful eyes we watched you suffer and saw you fade away.
Although we loved you deeply, we could not make you stay.
A gold heart stopped beating, your hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.
