

Mary Delores Salazar Bernal, 89, of Overland Park, Kansas died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Villa St. Francis Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at Sacred Heart/Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 2544 Madison Street, Kansas City, Missouri. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. at the church, with rosary at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to Villa St. Francis.
Mary was born on February 16, 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri to Manuel and Ana Marie (Vasquez) Salazar. She was a mother to seven children and a part time postal worker. When Mary was younger she was very active in her parish. She was PTA president for Sacred Heart Grade School, president of the Altar and Rosary Society. Mary was instrumental in the first Mexicana Fiesta for Sacred Heart parish. She also held various positions for the Lillis High School PTA and was the president of Diocesan Catholic Women, Deanery II. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, on October 16, 2001. Mary’s survivors her seven children , Anna Maria Price, Mary Catherine Powell, Henry J. Bernal, Edward R. Bernal, Mary L. Florez, James R. Bernal, and Teresa M. Edwards-Hatcher; 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. “We’re in this together”, Ana.
