

Mary Patricia Flahive, 75, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri died on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at the home of her daughter. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, at Redemptorist Fathers/Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 W. Linwood, Kansas City, Missouri where the rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the Cancer Institute or to Odyssey Hospice.
Mrs. Flahive was born on November 7, 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri to William G. and Ruth (Donnelly) Small. Redemptorist Church was the center of her life as she was baptized, attended elementary school, had her first communion, was married and buried Bernard, her husband of 39 years from there in 1989. She worked as a Veteran’s Certifying Official at UMKC for 19 years before her retirement in 1991. Patricia was more than just a little proud of her Irish heritage. She was a huge Chiefs fan holding season tickets for well over 10 years. In addition to her husband; Patricia’s parents preceded her in death. Patricia was also preceded in death by her beloved cousins, Tess and Nolan Twibell. Her daughter, Nancy Sweeten and husband, Dan, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; three sons, Bernard Michael Flahive of Kansas City, Missouri, Patrick Flahive of Seattle, Washington, and Timothy Flahive of the home; 2 grandchildren, Katie and Sean Flahive of East Meadow, New York; one cousin, Patt Cooley of Tulsa, Oklahoma; great-nephews, Devin and Chris Cooley; as well as numerous other family and friends survive her. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lowell Byers and the staff at the Cancer Institute of St. Luke’s Hospital and to Odyssey Hospice for the love, care and support shown to Mom during her illness.
