Mary Magdalene Lemos

22 julio , 193130 abril , 2021

Mary M. Lemos, 89, of Kansas City, MO, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on April 30, 2021, at the St. Luke’s Hospice House with family at her side. Mary was born on July 22, 1931 to Juan and Ruth Compos and grew up in the Argentine district of Kansas City, Kansas. She married Julian Lemos on October 20, 1951 and they had four sons and one daughter. She was a homemaker until the youngest son went to high school. She then went to work for Associated Photographers in the packing and logistics department where she met several women whom became longtime friends. She retired after 20 years of service. After their retirements, Mary and Julian enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends. They also loved going to Mexican dances in the metro area and would dance the night away; they didn’t miss a beat and danced beautifully together. They also volunteered at several charitable organizations including: Meals on Wheels, the Azteca Club of Kansas City, and most of all the Redemptorist Social Service Center. A devout Catholic, Mary was an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church where she participated in a ministry for over 30 years of volunteering to provide programs of assistance to stabilize individuals, families and neighborhoods with long-term results benefiting the entire community. Never learning to drive, she walked to and from the center each week on Mondays to volunteer. She was very proud of all of her volunteer activities, but fully retired in December 2019 at 88 years young. She had many very dear friends whom she would talk to frequently on the phone, sometimes on a daily basis, and sometimes for many hours during a day. She always remembered birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions with a card and/or a phone call. Mary will be greatly missed by her family and her dear friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Julian of 59 years, her son Anthony (Tony), brothers John, Antonio and Joseph Compos. Survivors include: her children, Julian (Sherri) Lemos, Teri Lemos, Denise (John) Hellstein, James (Kathleen) Lemos, and Henry (Andrea) Lemos; her grandchildren, Justin Lemos, Michael (Jessica) Hellstein, Jacob (Natalie) Lemos, Linda (Mike) Marsden, James Lemos II, Michael (Libby) Lemos, Allison (Danny) Esselman, Nicholas Lemos, Ashley (Luke) Napier and Joseph Lemos; great-grandchildren, Noah & Nash Lemos, William, Clark, & Rose Marsden, Oliver Hellstein and James Napier; and a sister, Maggie DeLeon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory: to the Redemptorist Social Services Center, 207 Linwood Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64111,; or Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 3333 Broadway Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64111, at; or the St. Luke’s Hospice House at Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 pm, Sunday, May 9 at McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 Linwood Blvd, Kansas City, MO. A funeral Mass will be held at 12:30 pm, Monday, May 10, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Private graveside services will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery.

I am loss for words today! I will forever miss our talks about the family history. If not for those talks, we may have never known what we know now! It feels like just yesterday when we were visiting the grave of your little sister ((Connie) Concha Conception Campos). We placed her stone in 2019. Now it is time for you to go and play with her, your brother Joe, and your first brother named Antonio. For whom my husband’s father! (Your other Brother named Antonio) got his name. I loved coming to see you! And then Covid came, and I knew even after most of the scare was gone. We could not come to see you if we wanted you to live as long as Our lord would let you.
Our condolences to the family!
Love Joseph Compos Sr., Nancy Fogle, Joseph Compos Jr., and Victoria (Torie) Compos.
