Mary was born September 15, 1922 in Ennis, Texas, the eldest of 10 children. She graduated from St. John Nepomucene High School in Ennis, Texas.
Mary married John V. (Jack) Schrack May 21, 1954. Mary worked for Montgomery Ward in Ft. Worth, Texas and Folger’s Coffee in Kansas City, Missouri, then raised her family in Leawood, Kansas. While her daughter, Mary Ann was in school, Mary volunteered at school libraries at Curé of Ars School and Notre Dame de Sion High School. Mary was one of the original members of Curé of Ars Parish.
After Jack retired in 1974, Mary and Jack enjoyed their time as Winter Texans in the Brownsville, Texas area. After Jack passed away, Mary began volunteering at the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging, which later became Unbound. She enjoyed visiting with friends while volunteering twice a week over 20 years.
Mary’s Catholic faith was important to her, attending daily Mass at Curé of Ars Church. She enjoyed learning about people. Within minutes of meeting someone new, she would have discovered the common background of her new friend.
Everyone was blessed by Mary’s kindness. She produced a compliment in every encounter. Everyone who met Mary loved her.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Frances Patak, her husband Jack Schrack, and her sisters, Agnes Franklin and Mildred Steichen. Mary is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann (Peter) Wieczkowski of Leawood, Kansas; grandson Joe (Allison) Wieczkowski, of Ballwin, Missouri; thirty-five nieces and nephews, and soon to be great-granddaughter Wieczkowski. Surviving siblings are Frances Peal of Dallas, Texas; Frank (Rita) Patak of Perry, Oklahoma; George (Delores) Patak of Perry, Oklahoma; Cecilia Severin of Enid, Oklahoma; Charles (Judy) Patak of Garber, Oklahoma; Henrietta Burkhart of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Catherine (Bill) Heilman of Spring Hill, Kansas.
