Mary E. Gausz Schwartz 66, of Kansas City, MO, passed away peacefully at Kansas University Medical Center with her loving husband by her side on Tuesday, July 20, 2021. She will forever be remembered as a cherished wife, devoted sister, loving 'aunt’, friend and generous to all.
Mary was born to John and Margaret Gausz and was the second oldest of five. She grew up in Watchung, New Jersey, graduated from Watchung Hills Regional High School (1973) where she met life-long friends. She earned her bachelor's degree in French from the University of Delaware (1977). She enjoyed a successful career in analytical and leadership roles in the financial services and pharmaceutical industry. Early in her career she accepted an opportunity to move to Kansas City where she built a vibrant life.
Mary was a devout Catholic and active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. For over 15 years she was a dedicated Eucharistic Minister, member of the choir and was available to help the church out with anything. Mary was blessed with countless friends. She enjoyed attending numerous sporting events, the Jaycees, singing in the community choir and she never met a stranger. Her welcoming personality and playful sense of humor is embedded in our memories forever.
Mary is preceded in death by her father, John; mother, Margaret and sister, Patricia Skelly. She is survived by her husband Christopher Schwartz; brother, John Gausz (Mary Pat); sisters Carol Gausz and Ann Schwantes (Jay); brothers-in-law, Michael Skelly and Greg Schwartz (Joyce); sister-in-law Carolyn Wibracht (Bruce) and eleven nieces and nephews and one great nephew.
The Memorial Mass will be held on August 21, 11 AM at St. Thomas More with a luncheon following. The family appreciates all of the outpouring of affection and prayers. In lieu of flowers, friends may send donations to the University of Kansas Cancer Center or caringbridge.org/donate.
