Mary Ann Setter, age 79, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Friday, September 7th. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11300 W. 103rd Overland Park, KS. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, KS. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, with a rosary at 6:00 p.m., at the church.
Mary Ann was born June 5, 1939, in Galena, Kansas, the 10th child of Cecil and Ida (Mace) Watkins. Mary Ann graduated from Kansas State College of Pittsburg with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Education on June 5, 1961. She moved to Kansas City and began teaching in the Shawnee Mission school district. Soon thereafter she met and then married Maurice Setter on June 4, 1966.
After having three children, Mary Ann returned to education and taught English, History and Geography at Holy Trinity Grade School in Lenexa, KS, until she retired in 1994. She then worked alongside her husband at his CPA firm part-time during tax season and enjoyed traveling throughout the year. She was an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church serving for years on the Funeral Dinners committee and volunteered with Catholic Charities and Uplift. She was also a huge supporter of the Knights of Columbus. She held her kids and grandchildren close to her heart and lived her faith daily.
Mary Ann was proceeded in death by her spouse, Maurice Setter, her parents, Cecil and Ida Watkins, a sister Dorothy and five brothers: John, Cecil, Cliff, Henry and Donald.
She is survived by: a son, Daniel William Setter of Shawnee, KS, and two Daughters, Laura Michelle Miller of Olathe, KS, Marlo Deanne Cranor and husband Del of Lee’s Summit, MO: two sisters Helen and Joyce; a brother Robert: four grandchildren: Mackenzie Ann Cranor, Lily Marie Cranor, Mason Allen Cranor and Caleb Francis Miller; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
