

Mary C. Severson (Marchio) of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on Saturday March 21st, 2026, at the age of 83. She was born on April 8th, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri, where she was raised and went on to raise a family of her own.
Mary graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1960. Mary was a homemaker for many years while she was married until later divorced. Mary started working for the Kansas City School district in the janitorial department. Students and faculty learned quickly to rely on her for her hard work and compassion for the students. Mary also worked for the City of Kansas City where she later retired, securing several lifelong friendships.
Mary was a social butterfly and enjoyed the ballet and theatre. She enjoyed the Renaissance Festivals each year, enjoyed going to the Zoo, loved nature, birds and butterflies. But most of all, Mary loved her sons. Her heart was broken when her beloved son Bruce died suddenly and her life changed in a moment. This loss was so difficult in so many ways.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Tony R Marchio and Virginia May Marchio (Wathen) and her only sister, Angene Fisher (Marchio) and her beloved son Bruce Severson.
Mary is survived by her beloved son, Tim “Skid” Severson of Upland, CA, niece, Toni Smierciak of Grand Junction, CO, niece, Caitlin Fisher Oliveria of Colorado Springs, CO
Mary worked hard in life, she loved hard, she was creative, outgoing, spunky and fun. She will genuinely be held in so many hearts forever. To the end, she expressed her gratitude for the one’s who stayed close to her, helped her in the good times and bad for her journey was not always easy. Rest peacefully our precious Mary.
Family and friends are invited to join us, as we remember Mary. Wear your sunglasses! And bring your umbrella just in case! Services will be held April 3rd, 2026 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM with the Funeral Service beginning at 2:00 PM. Followed by a Committal Service at 3:00 PM located at Mount Moriah Cemetery South.
