Mattie Lou Diaz died Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 12, 2015 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine. Visitation from 10-11 a.m. at the Shrine.
Mattie was born September 24, 1940 in Raton, NM to Gilberto and Susanna (Blea) Romero. As a young teenager, Mattie helped raise her younger siblings and was always there for all of them in times of need. As would follow, as an adult, she was a caregiver to her community. Mattie was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Robert Romero and sister, Erlinda Folson and one great grandson. Her suriviors include two daughters, Cathy Morris (Andy Ortiz) of Kansas City, MO and Dianna Diaz of Overland Park, KS; son Charles J. Diaz, Jr. (Mary Ann), Kansas City, MO; one brother, Arthur Garcia, Thornton, CO; sister, Loretta Acosta, Mercid, CA;10 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren with two on the way.
