Michael Dean Garrison was the eighth born and the fifth boy of nine children of Thomas and Gertrude Garrison. As the next youngest of three sisters and five brothers, he grew up in a three-bedroom house in Northeast Kansas City, Missouri. And yes it was crowded. He was born on March 19, 1944, in Kansas City. He attended Scarritt School, Northeast Junior High, and Northeast Senior High School. Mike was inducted into the US Army on September 22, 1965, and was released from active duty on September 22, 1967, after serving one year, eleven months and 29 days. He had been stationed at Fort Benjamin Harrison, in Indiana, in a Military Police unit. After the Army, he worked several years at the records center for Trans World Airlines before he moved to San Francisco for a couple of years. When he came back to Kansas City, he began a career in the hotel field working for several hotel firms, primarily as a night manager or accountant.
Mike was always a sharp dresser and had very good taste in clothes for men and women. He had that fashion eye and oftentimes would buy his mother clothes for those special occasions, and when he did, she stood out, she was special. If you were fortunate, hand-me-downs from Michael would be first class.
Toward the end, Mike's health began to fail and he began to live in places that were capable of taking care of him. On May 14, 2025, Mike died in one of those care facilities with Hospice nearby. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, Shirley LaBruzzo, Barbara Hixson, Johnnie Garrison, Thomas Garrison, and Danny Garrison.
