Michael Patrick McGill passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the age of 65. The only son of Joseph and Mary Louise, Michael grew up with four younger sisters, Therese, Joan, Erin and Mary. He had a unique, special relationship with each, but was a protective big brother to them all. He always kept them laughing and on their toes. Michael graduated from Wichita State University, where he met Connie, his loving wife of 33 years. Michael was a devoted husband and proud father to their only son Kevin. He loved family game nights (where he and Kevin waged many fierce battles), Boy Scout camping trips, and competing in bridge tournaments (he was one of the best bridge players in the country).
Michael was a creative thinker and tinkerer with numerous patents to his credit. No one was faster at mental math. He was a mischievous, practical jokester. He loved talking to strangers. He was extremely generous to others in need. He rarely complained about anything, even on the worst of days. After Connie died, he met Tatyana, and they were married for six happy years.
In addition to his wife, son, sisters and a huge extended family, Michael is survived by his five-year-old grandson Joshua and his two-year old granddaughter Kaitlyn. He adored them both. Josh inherited Michael’s build (it skipped a generation), remarkable focus and generosity. Kate has his mischievous spirit.
Memorial services will be held in Kansas City, MO and Wichita, KS. Details will be posted at www.mcgilleystatelinechapel.com. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests donations to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements: McGilley State Line Chapel, 816-942-6180.
