Michael J. Smith

Michael J. Smith, 50 of Kansas City, MO died Thursday, February 2, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Private services will be held. A Memorial Mass will be announced at a later date for family and friends. The family requests contributions to either Catholic Charities or the Humane Society in Michael’s name.

Michael was born March 18, 1966 in Kansas City, MO to John and Rita (Prevost) Smith. Michael graduated from Bishop Miege High School where he was a wrestler, football and baseball player for 3 & 2 Baseball. He attended the University of Kansas. Michael was a general contractor who specialized in pools and water features. Michael married Cynthia Eichhorn on June 17, 2010. Michael was preceded in death by an infant nephew, Colin Bailey. Michael’s survivors include his wife, Cynthia Eichhorn-Smith ‘Gertie’ of the home; two children, Chance Smith and Shay Smith of Lee’s Summit, MO; parents, John and Rita Smith of Mission, KS; siblings, Dan Smith of Napa, CA; Brian Smith of Leawood, KS; Jacque Ivey of Prairie Village, KS; Kathleen Bailey of Westwood, KS and Greg Smith of St. Louis, MO; parents-in-law, Bill and Barbara Cohn of Leawood, KS; sister-in-law, Kala Eichhorn of St. Louis, MO; brother-in-law Grant Eichhorn of Lawrence, KS; 17 nieces and nephews and their beloved dog, CoCo.
