Mike was born, November 1, 1952, first of four sons to the late D. Jean (Castle) and Bill G. Vrentas, Sr. of Raymore MO. Mike was preceded in death by brothers Bill Vrentas, Jr., Rick D. Vrentas, and survived by his brother Greg (Andrea) Vrentas of Austin, TX.
Mike is also survived by son Michael L, Vrentas, Jr., of Prairie, Arkansas; Cherie's son, Chris (Amy) Evans: seventeen grandchildren: Kayla (Kae) and Jonathan Vrentas, Sabrina, Landon, and Karlie Vrentas, Kylie and Camden Redel, Jonathan and Kayla Vrentas, Brody and Ashla Davis, Gavin and Ryleigh Norwat, Crystal, Joshua, Emily and Caleb Evans; two great-grandchildren, two nieces: Nicolle (Brandon) Hodges (children Jenna, Wyatt, Elina), Erika (Billy) Miller (children Benji, Joshua, Grant, Arial); two nephews: Jeremy (Marky) Vrentas (children Ian, Lily), and Elias, the youngest, now 6 (son of brother Greg and Andrea Vrentas); and, his life·long best friend Duane (Janice) Bowles. Throughout his life, Mike remembered his late grandmother Marie Castle, grandfather Michael J. and grandmother Edith (Shores), Vrentas, Sr. with love, gratitude and admiration.
Mike was unique -- a very likable guy, smart, loving and kind; a bit stubborn (some say "a lot"), opinionated, outspoken, all-the-while Mike was a truly good person, a friend, who enjoyed life, and had a deep interest in helping others. He was passionate and loved by many with whom he shared fun memorable times - always expanding his vision.
Mike graduated in 1971 from Shawnee Mission South High School (Overland Park, Kansas); and, unable to pursue his dream career as a commercial airline pilot, Mike joined the Kansas City Police Department for a short time. Upon leaving, Mike joined Farmers Insurance as an adjuster. Interested in properly-casualty insurance sales, Mike worked for American Family Insurance from late 1989 - through November, 1992, building a very successful $1.M business. In December, 1992 Mike joined Shelter Insurance Company. He selected Carol Prettyman to assist him; and, with her support, Mike became the largest insurance writer for commercial unit sales at Shelter! In March, 2008, after 15+ Yrs., Mike left for a new vision & venture. Carol transitioned to and currently remained the Lees Summit Agent.
A very proud dad, Mike was actively involved for 8 yrs. with Tiffany's Karate training, travel for nationwide competition, including Chicago (where Cherie, aunt Kathi Vrentas Heller and cousin Angie Heller also watched her compete); and reach for the big wins – YEA! Won 2 World Title Championships in California! Mike and Cherie traveled to Hawaii, Mexico, and Colorado for white-water rafting, enjoyed quieter times in Branson, Mo., and favorite spots close to home. Greek Fests were a must, Kourabiedes! (Greek powder sugar cookies) like Grandma Edith's.
Mike was in his glory at home - preparing and hosting the Annual 4th of July Barb ‘cue - homemade food, grilled & smoked meats, overflowing sides, and yes, desserts; local fireman would stop by on the fire truck for kids to explore; then water balloons, a bean bag toss and unending evening fireworks. Mike’s "Best Yard" in the neighborhood, was neatly trimmed, with beautiful gardens of roses and colorful flowers surrounding the yard, family pool and wood deck (built by Mike and friend Claude). Mike maintained the yard and gardens with pride in memory of Grandpa Mike Vrentas' yard. The bird feeders nestled under the eave were always filled with seed for the birds fluttering in and out all day.
Mike's next Season of Life approaching, his mind and heart were driven to research and finding new cancer protocols-alternatives to chemotherapy. Cherie, a breast cancer survivor, was battling the disease again. Chemo was not an answer. Working with her naturopathec-doctor they carefully considered treatments to beat the cancer, help with comfort, and healing for Cherie’s survival. Mike incorporated "Road to Health, Inc." for sharing, separately by video, the research, protocols and other related information discussed in live on-line consultations. In 2018, Mike's completed work was approved, and the Video Series, "THE CELLECT BUDWIG & MORE” became available on a 4 Disc DVD Set for purchase, extending global accessibility. Today, Cherie is Cancer free. Mike never took credit personally, but would say "God healed Cherie, He used me as his hands”.
Mike and Cherie attended The Open Range Fellowship Church in Lone Jack, MO. They became friends with Pastor Frank Slaughter (now rested) and his wife Brenda. Mike's great respect for and confidence in Pastor Frank, inspired his continued steadfast faith in the Lord. Mike especially appreciated the Fellowship’s informal atmosphere, friendly down-to-earth people and spirit of services.
Mike remains in our hearts forever - his memory eternal.
