Mona Lee (Cole) Owen passed on November 30, 2022. Mona was born in 1931 in Brunswick, Missouri to Pansy Frances Gertrude & John Franklin Cole. Mona and her numerous siblings were raised in the Kansas City, Missouri metro area but also spent time on their grandparents pecan farm in Brunswick, Missouri. This was a delight to Mona as noted when she spoke of times at the farm.
Mona had a second set of parents in her Aunt Annie & Uncle Tootie (Florene Edna (Smith) Herman and Elmer Herman) of Raytown, Missouri. Annie & Tootie helped raise Mona and she loved spending time with them and her children in her Uncle’s backyard rose garden.
Mona was a graduate of East High School. She met Charles Owen during her high school years and they married upon her graduation in 1949. They had seven children together giving way to 19 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Mona was a devoted wife and mother who was admired for her graciousness and patience. Mona had lifelong friendships that were an inspiration and fueled her joy for 91 years.
A long standing member of Nativity of Mary Catholic Parish in Independence, Missouri, she possessed a deep faith in God, miracles, and angels (in all forms). Her faith comforts the family at this time.
Mona was preceded in death by her husband Charles, parents, several siblings, eldest and third eldest daughters Sue and Cheryl Owen as well as son-in-law Paul Hakan.
She is survived by her children Jodie Wenzel (Mike), Sandie Gaines (Bob), Chuck Owen (Peggy), David Owen (Anne) & Keri Hakan. Along with her 19 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
