The family of Nancy Arlen Pace Dougan celebrates her life here on Earth. She was born December 8, 1934, beloved only child of Charles and Erma Pace. Nancy graduated from Stilwell, Kansas High School as Salutatorian of her class. It was here that she met and fell in love with the light of her life, Don Dougan.
Don’s brother, Conway, was Nancy’s high school History teacher and basketball coach. Their love of basketball and sports would be an integral part of their lives throughout the years. They enjoyed attending Blue Valley basketball games where his cousin Rick Taylor coached and where Don tried to “help” the referees as Nancy and Rick’s mother, Vera sat in silence and continued to watch the game. Don and Nancy enjoyed bowling in leagues with close friends and relatives for more than three decades, playing cards with family, neighbors and friends following Kansas basketball, attending concerts and most any form of socializing. They spent twenty-plus years vacationing in Hawaii during the winter months where they made many friends.
Don and Nancy married on March 16, 1952 while Nancy was a senior in high school as Don was assigned to Alaska during the Korean war. After graduation, Nancy’s parents drove her to the airport where she hopped aboard a propeller aircraft and they began to live their lives as one. As an only child, Nancy always wanted a large family and they were blessed with two daughters, Becky and Pam, and two sons, Jim and Mark. Six grandchildren were joyously added to their family, along with seven great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. All of whom they cherished.
Nancy was proud member of the Seventh Church of Christ, Scientist, which she began attending as a young child, and a member of The Mother Church in Boston, Massachusetts. She took great joy being with her church family, playing bridge with church friends and serving in any volunteer opportunities offered to her.
After Don’s passing in 1997, Nancy continued her church activities, volunteering as a YouthFriend at the Blue Valley School District, playing in golf and bowling leagues with her girlfriends until her early 80’s and visiting her ever-growing family.
She leaves behind many nieces and nephews who were so dear to her.
