

He passed away at his home on Thursday, December 18, 2014, surrounded by his family, after a 20 month battle with cancer.
Nate leaves behind his loving wife, Amber, and his loyal dog, Eddie, his parents Dennis and Mary Beth Welzenbach of Leawood, KS, sister, Kathryn of Dallas; brothers, David and wife Nancy, Andrew and wife Katie all of Overland Park, KS, Nicholas and wife Kendall of San Jose, CA; along with many uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces and countless friends in the Kansas City and Davenport, IA areas. He was preceded in death by his beloved cousin, DaJuan Gibson.
He was a graduate of Blue Valley North, where he played football and wrestled. He went on to play football for Ft. Scott Community College and later attended Kansas State University.
Nathan worked as a bartender at Longhorn Steakhouse in Leawood for the last 12 years having many regulars who came to share his company. There he met his wife and accumulated many more friendships.
Nate loved to read books especially history and novels and loved all kinds of movies. He would study content of these deeper and formed solid opinions on many points and enjoyed conversing and debating with friends. He would have made a fine critic.
He loved to write, always having pen and paper and trusty briefcase. He has written many stories and plays, primarily for his own edification, but has found some outside interest in them as well.
And then there was his love of music. Among his favorites; Pearl Jam and The National; not just the CDs and downloads but live concerts. Starting at age 12, he attended concerts around the country to enjoy the live experience.
Along with wife Amber, his favorite pastime was Royals baseball, and in his last summer was able to enjoy seeing almost all their games, attending most of their long post-season run.
Nate will be missed by his family and a multitude of close friends. With his kind and generous heart, he made a difference in their lives that will be difficult to replace. Our hearts are heavy and minds are sad. We loved you so much. May God bless you and keep you.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 21st, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., at McGilley State Line Chapel, where the Rosary will be prayed at 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 22nd, 10:00 a.m., at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes, Kansas City, MO, with burial following in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
