Nellie M. (Slocum) Kelly, 90, of Independence, MO, passed away August 15, 2013 at The Groves. Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 p.m. followed by funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The Groves Community Hospice, 15600 Woods Chapel Rd., Kansas City, MO 64139 and American Cancer Society, 1100 Pennsylvania, Kansas City, MO 64105.
Nellie May was born January 1, 1923 in Kansas City, MO, daughter of Edgar A., Sr. and Nellie May (Litton) Slocum. She was the youngest of seven siblings. She grew up on the East Side of Kansas City, marrying her childhood sweetheart, William Kelly on September 9, 1942. Nellie May had worked for Interstate Bakery for 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Bill “Jr.” Kelly on December 28, 2000; five brothers Edgar Jr., Fred, Seth, David and Charles Slocum; and infant sister Jeanette Slocum. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and extended family.
