Mrs. Neomia Marie Harvey was born May 11, 1933 in Oswego Kansas, and lived there until she met and married her husband Rae. Rae was in the United States Marine Corps and served for 28 years. She supported him during his military service as they were transferred to a different duty station every 3-4 years. One of her proudest moments was when she became President of the Officer Wives Club while they were stationed in Kansas City, MO. a role she thoroughly enjoyed.
“Nan” as she was called by almost everyone who knew her, was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was a woman of excellent taste in her love for Italian and Mexican food. You could often find her sipping her favorite drink, a cold Pepsi while enjoying her favorite show “The Golden Girls”. Her love for music was eclectic, she could be found humming tunes from the oldies and occasionally some country music. Nan also enjoyed watching scary movies, Tales From the Crypt or Goosebumps amongst others with her grandsons while often going well past their bed time, although she will swear she never fell asleep first.. That was something they would often do when they were younger while staying with her and PaPa. Her laughter and light-hearted spirit were infectious during family game nights where she was always ready for a competitive round of UNO or Mille Bornes. One trait that stayed constant was her love for the color pink, a hue that perfectly complemented her compassionate spirit and vibrant persona.
In the last year of her life, she enjoyed the care staff at the Silverado Memory Care Facility in Lee’s Summit MO. All of them were so good to her. She would get upset/mad at them for touching her with their cold hands, touching her foot or other things she didn’t like and was always unapologetically herself in response. All who cared for her echoed the thought that she was ornery and transparent in her feelings, but also extremely loving and full of quick laughter and interesting stories.
Neomia “Nan” Harvey will forever remain in our hearts. Her vicarious personality, radiant smile, love for the simple pleasures in life, and endearing love for her family will always be remembered. As we mourn her departure, we also celebrate a life beautifully lived and a journey full of stories and lore.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Ellis “Rae” Harvey, her parents Earnest and Ruby Jones, William “Billy” Jones (brother), Elnore Stringer (sister), Ernest “Doc” Jones (brother), Mike Wiseman (son) and Christopher Weiss (grandson).
She is survived by her daughter LaTenna “Tenna” Weiss, Frank Weiss (son-in-law) of Grandview, MO, Kevin Weiss (grandson) of Dallas, TX and Stephen Weiss (grandson) of Ft. Myers, FL. Stephen’s wife Ashlynn and great granddaughters Brighton and Monroe Weiss.
