Norman was born September 20, 1929, in Camden County, MO, son of the late Logan Oliver, Sr., and Emma Lou (Walls) Sousley. He left school in the 7th grade after his father died to help support the family. On April 30, 1949, he married Helen Burnett at her uncle’s house South of Stover, MO, in Morgan County. He served in the Army from 1952 to 1954, spending one year in Anchorage, AK. They moved to Kansas City right after the Army and then to Independence in 1996. He worked for Burnett Meat Company and then L&C Meat Company and retired in 1986. For many years he was an active manager, coach, and umpire in Southeast, South KC, and South Suburban Baseball Leagues. He also loved bowling on leagues with Helen for many years. He was a member of the Spring Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Independence, MO.
He was preceded in death by 6 sisters and 5 brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Helen, of the home; daughter, Janie Bumgarner and her husband Steve; granddaughters, Missy Lyons, Michelle and her husband Mike Chitwood; great-granddaughters, Mallory and Morgan Lyons, and Grace Chitwood; and one brother, Donald Sousley.
A public visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday, October 12, at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO. A private family service will be held on Tuesday, October 13. Burial will take place at Belton Cemetery.
