Osa Marie Speight

Osa Marie Gorthy Speight "Boots", 75, of Kansas City, Mo died on April 16th 2014 in her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be noon Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Redemptorist Catholic Church, 3333 Broadway, KCMO. Visitation will be Monday April 28th from 4-7 at McGilley Memorial Chapel. Memorial slide show at 6:45 followed by the rosary at 7. Memorial contributions may be made to Redemptorist Church.

Osa was raised by her loving grandparents John and Clara Hoover. She grew up near 39th and Pennsylvania. She attended Redemptorist Catholic School where she was class president her senior year. She was active in pep club, choir, operetta, rockets of science and on the prom committee.

Osa was married at Redemptorist on Oct 5th 1963. She helped run the family business but her true passion was being a stay at home mother of six. She volunteered as picture lady and with the PTA, taught Sunday school, and was a foster mother with Birth Right of Kansas City.

After being out of the work force since she was a tray girl at Putch's cafeteria in high school, at the age of 48 she passed the exam and was hired on with the USDA. She was employed there for 10 years before retiring. After that she returned back to her true passion- her children and her grandchildren and giving unconditional love.

Osa was preceded in death by her grandparents John E and Clara Marie Hoover, her father Robert Gorthy, her mother Kathleen Miller and her husband Arthur Miller, her sister-in-law Mary Withrow , her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clifford and Eleanor Speight. Survivors include her six children: Michael (Caroline) Speight, Joann Speight, Steven (Debra ) Speight, Margaret McCain (Greg ), Mary Speight Brown, and Johnny Speight; 8 grandchildren: Tyler Speight, Hannah Speight, Timothy Speight, Zachary Speight, Matthew Speight, Abigail Speight, Henry and Sophia Brown and their father Andrew Brown; her sisters: Joann Wright, and Sandra Rodriguez; her nieces and nephews: Jim and Carol Withrow, John and Sue Sue Withrow, Ellen Withrow and Rob Noah, Mitzi Roam, Tina and Joe Walters, Bradley and Kim Roam, Jonathan and Jennifer Rodriguez; her lifetime friends: Margaret Audley Cipolla, Nancy Stewart Hughes, Imelda Charay Foley; and many other family and friends.
