Patricia Kay Branham (Jewett), 68 years old, passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at home in Kansas City, MO. After a long and fearless battle with cancer, she peacefully went to be with her Savior with her husband by her side. Patricia’s 13 year battle with cancer began in 2002. Her unwavering faith in God along with her strong will to live and the support and prayers of family and friends carried her through this journey.
Patricia was born in Kansas City, MO on October 7, 1947 to Claude I. Jewett, Sr. and Betty R. Jewett (Roberts). Both of her parents preceded her in death and she is now rejoicing with them in heaven. She is survived by her husband, Homer R. Branham, her daughter Teresa K. Nolan and husband, Alphonso Z. Nolan, Sr., and her son David R. Branham and wife, Shannon D. Branham, all of Kansas City, MO. Patricia had two step-daughters, Vida J. Snook of California and Deborah K. Branham of Arizona. Patricia had five siblings, Claude I. Jewett, Jr. of Midland, TX, Carol S. Walkenhorst of Thonotosassa, FL, Carl W. Jewett of Nashville, NC, Sheryl L. Hanna of Palmdale, CA, and Karen L. Brown of Wellsville, KS. Patricia had eight grandchildren, Vanaty T. Black, Monte Nolan, Andrew D. Simmons, Alphonso Z. Nolan, Jr., Kayla R. Branham, Elizabeth D. Branham, all of Kansas City, MO and Amanda N. Littrell of Mexico, MO and Curtis L. Smith of Santa Rosa, CA. Patricia also had many great-grandchildren.
Even though she was born locally, Patricia grew up in South Dakota. Her family moved to Cameron, MO during her senior year of high school and she graduated from Cameron High School in 1966. She also married Donald L. Kirk in 1966. Their daughter, Teresa, was born in 1967 and their son, David, was born in 1972. Patricia and Don lived in many small towns in Missouri as their children grew up. They returned to Cameron in 1977 and remained there for several years. While they were in Cameron, Patricia and Don divorced and Patricia then married her husband of 34 years, Homer, in 1981. Patricia, Homer, Teresa, and David lived in several small towns in Missouri and Kansas until they moved to the Kansas City area and that is where her immediate family remains. Patricia graduated from nursing school as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1981. She held several nursing jobs and loved taking care of others.
Throughout her entire life, Patricia was a woman of faith. It was her strong faith that carried her through her battle with cancer. Prior to fighting cancer, Patricia taught Sunday School for many years and touched many young lives. Many of the children she taught maintained a relationship with her for years. Even as she was fighting for her life, Patricia found ways to comfort her family and friends.
Patricia was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2002. It was in 2011 when she was diagnosed with leukemia and her long battle with cancer intensified at that time. Over the past four years, Patricia surprised many of her doctors and nurses with her strong will to live. She fought hard because of the love she had for her family and no matter how hard she was fighting, she would do anything she could to spend time with them. Patricia was able to share God’s love with her family and friends during this difficult time. When her doctors told her they couldn’t believe that she was still fighting, she always told them that God wasn’t finished with her yet.
Patricia will be missed by many but she will be missed the most by her family. As her family, we would like to thank all friends and family for their love and prayers over the last several years.
