Patricia was born on November 22, 1929 to Eugene Arthur “Art” Taggart and Jane Ida (Morgan) Taggart in Sedro Woolley, Washington. As a young girl, Pat enjoyed working with her siblings in her father’s bakery where she developed a love of baked goods and sweets. Pat became a talented baker herself and spent every Christmas season baking her famous buttery spritz cookies to share with neighbors and friends. She was proud to pass along her famous Christmas cookie recipes and baking tips with her five granddaughters.
Pat attended University High school in Oakland, CA, and met James “Jim” Arthur Frost, whom she married on June 19, 1949. Pat and James together raised three sons, Gregg Alan, Jeff Robert and Doug Stuart. Throughout their marriage, Pat and Jim traveled for his career along the coast, from California to Washington to Oregon, followed by several more moves across the country, with three children under the age of five, taking them to Kansas City, Wichita, Ft. Worth, Hutchinson, eventually settling in Overland Park.
Throughout her adult life, Pat worked as a talented and detail-oriented bank teller, enjoyed participating in a Bridge Club with close friends, and singing hymns in her church choir with her beautiful alto voice. It was important to Pat that wherever they lived, there was a church nearby with a talented choir. Pat loved to laugh, found humor in most situations, always told a good-natured joke (and wrote a “Ha Ha!” in all her gifts and cards), and even in her last days, called friends to chat, share a story, and laugh together. Pat believed in fairness, taking care of others who had less than her, and giving whenever she could. Pat was always kind, a little bit sassy, and never found a slice of pizza she didn’t enjoy. In addition to her love of laughter, she passed along her love of music, movies, good wine and a belief in hard work to her three talented sons.
Pat and Jim divorced when their children were grown and she married Keith Chader of Leawood in 2001. Their marriage took them on a delightful adventure to Ft. Myers, FL where she fell in love with life on the beach and was reunited with golf, first introduced to her by her father, proudly scoring a hole in one. Pat loved doting on Keith until his death in 2002.
Pat continued living in Florida where friends introduced her to Don Burton — and more adventure. Pat and Don were married in Las Vegas in 2010. She and Don shared a strong companionship together in Florida before moving back to Overland Park residing at Tallgrass Creek. Don passed away in 2020. Pat enjoyed being a member of Church of the Resurrection watching Sunday services from her residence as often as she could followed by brunch with one of her sons.
Pat was also preceded in death by her mother, Jane, father, Eugene Arthur, sister, Eileen Taggart (Suzio), and brother, Eugene “Gene” Taggart. She is survived by her sons, Gregg Frost, Overland Park, KS; Doug Frost (Brenda Hartman) Prairie Village, KS; and Jeff Frost (Dawn Messing), Key West, FL.
Pat leaves five loving granddaughters: Lauren Frost (Steve Pile), Stephanie (George) Holland, Hillary (Robert) Carter, Hannah Hartman-Frost (Scott Baddeley), and Allegra M. Frost (Sean Mangiaracina). She leaves 11 great-grandchildren: Vivienne Louise, George Francis III, Elise Marie, Stella Rose Marie,
Evangeline Mae, James Robert, Colin Galvan, Luke Patrick, Lucy Hannah, Ben Frost, and Arthur Frost, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, on Friday, January 9. Pat’s loved ones invite friends and family to attend a celebration of her life with a visitation beginning at 1pm followed by a memorial service at 2pm.
The family would like to give thanks to the doctors, nurses, aides, and all of the special care she received at Tallgrass and from Ascend Hospice in her final days, and the thoughtful prayers and blessings she received from the ministers at Church of the Resurrection.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to City Union Mission, Kansas City.
