Patricia Elaine Peterson Moore entered into the next chapter of her eternal life on Dec. 24, 2025. She was born July 15, 1938, in Joliet, Illinois, the daughter of the Rev. Roswell Peterson and Eva Bargren Peterson. With her younger brother, Thomas, the family came to Kansas City, Missouri, where Pat graduated from Southwest High School in 1956.
Pat earned a bachelor of arts degree from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, where she met and fell in love with the soon-to-be Dr. James Moore. They were married July 23, 1960, in Chicago. With their son, James Wesley Jr., and daughters, Jennifer Elaine and Stephanie Ann, the Moores lived in Kansas City, where Jim practiced oral surgery and Pat worked in elementary education, as well as earning a master’s degree from the University of Missouri – Kanas City. She taught third grade at Corinth Elementary in Prairie Village, Kansas; served as a reading specialist at Cambridge Elementary in Belton, Missouri; and substituted in special education in the Blue Valley School District in Kansas. Pat was a member of the International Reading Association.
Faith was central to Pat’s life. The family were devoted members of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Kansas City, where Pat served on the Altar Guild. With Jim, she created the church’s Cancer Support Group and founded a chapter of the Order of St. Luke the Physician, a healing-prayer ministry. She also stepped into a new role as a clergy spouse when Jim was ordained as a deacon.
Pat was a gifted pianist and sang in several choral groups. She also enjoyed tennis and created beautiful needlepoint work. Pat was beloved by many, especially among her fellow parishioners at St. Andrew’s and her fellow residents at Mission Chateau in Prairie Village, Kansas.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Roswell and Eva Peterson, as well as her son, James Moore Jr., and daughter Jennifer Moore. Survivors include her daughter Stephanie Moore of Shawnee, Kansas; and her brother, Dr. Thomas Peterson (Marilyn) of Houston, Texas.
Pat’s life will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 6401 Wornall Terr in Kansas City, Missouri.
