Larry, as he was known by friends and family, was born on August 29, 1940 in Carrollton Missouri and grew up in Hamilton Missouri. He enjoyed country life with his parents Raymond and Mary Bower and his five sisters; Mary Anne Bower, Virginia Rinderknecht,Barbara Higgason, Beverly Brettingham (deceased) and Deborah Hunt. He graduated from J.C.Penny High School, class of 1958. He came to Kansas City to pursue career opportunities around 1966.
At the age of 29, he married Catherine Biever and they were blessed with their own beautiful family.
Larry lived a full life,enjoying telling jokes and bringing laughter to everyone around him. He was a devout Catholic who enjoyed engaging in church activities such as; Knights of Columbus Hamilton, Eucharistic Ministry, Special Religious Education and Legion of Mary. He also loved to attend car races and go square dancing and bowling.
He is survived by his wife Cathy and three grateful children; David Bower, Andy Bower and Katie Bower-Cox. Also loved and raised in their home were nephew and niece,Tony and Michelle Brettingham. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Catholic Community Hospice from the Archdiocese of KCK or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
A visitation for Larry will be held Wednesday, September 7th from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 6415 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, MO 64119. A rosary will be prayed at 12:30 PM followed by the Funeral Mass at 1:00 PM.
