Funeral services are 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 23rd, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM at the McGilley Antioch Chapel; burial will be in Kerns-Freeman Cemetery in Buchanan County, MO. Contributions are suggested to North Cross United Methodist Church.
Ray was born June 24, 1923 in Hemple, MO. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a radio operator and was awarded 5 Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal and a Purple Heart. Following the war, he moved to Kansas City where he lived until his passing. On July 22, 1949 he married Alice Kasselhute. They were married 66 years before her passing in 2016. In 1948 Ray was employed by General Motors Assembly Division where he worked for more than 30 years. He enjoyed nearly 40 years of retirement. Ray was a member of the North Cross United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, wood carving, traveling, sitting out with his neighbors, square dancing, watching the Kansas City Royals baseball and Chiefs football. Ray had a wonderful sense of humor. In later years, he eventually learned to enjoy some benefits from wearing his World War II cap.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Martin Hoffman and wife, Dr. Debi Hoffman; two grandsons, Alek Hoffman and wife, Kate Hoffman; Ryan Hoffman and fiancé, Hannah Hagemann; a great grandson, August Hoffman; numerous nieces and nephews.
