

Visitation for Raymond Anthony Pettaway will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, March 14, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road. A visitation will also be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, at the funeral home. Interment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery South. Raymond Anthony Pettaway was born on June 17, 1982, to the union of Ray and Valerie Pickens Pettaway in Kansas City, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his brother Manuel Catrell “Trell” Pickens, his paternal grandfather Tommy Pettaway, and his uncle Duane Pettaway. He was baptized at St. Stephen’s Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. Dr. Mac Charles Jones, where he served as a Junior Usher, when he was younger. Raymond received his education in the Kansas City, Missouri School District. He worked at several different jobs. His last employment was doing lawn care and other odd jobs. He was a people person who loved talking to people and could talk to anyone comfortably. He loved to be near and interact with his family. He felt it was important to maintain strong bonds with family. He was loved and embraced by all who knew him. On March 10, 2011, life came to a sudden end to Raymond Anthony Pettaway in Kansas City, Missouri. There remains to cherish his memory his beloved two sons RayQuan Pettaway and JaRay Pettaway of Kansas City; his mother Valerie Pettaway of the home; his father and stepmother Ray and Charna Pettaway of Arlington, Texas; four brothers LaVance Kennedy of the home, Ray Clark and Renard Clark of Kansas City, Missouri and Tremaine Pettaway of Houston, Texas; two sisters Tia Hinton of the home and Chavon Pettaway of Houston, Texas; his maternal grandparents Samuel and Shirley Pickens of Ardmore, Oklahoma; paternal grandmother Vera Pettaway of Kansas City; Sophia Pace (friend and mother of his children); special friend MeShawn Kirkwood; several aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and many, many friends.
