Angels came to escort her to her Heavenly home where she will forever be part of God’s Glorious Kingdom. Retha’s Celebration of Life will be held at Fellowship Church of Greenwood, 1601 West Main Street, Greenwood, MO 640034 on Thursday, Dec 28th. Visitation is at 1pm with services at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Fellowship Church of Greenwood or KC Hospice.
Born to Reverend Clyde and Pearl Nichols on August 29,1939, Retha was nurtured in a devout Baptist Christian household as the youngest of 4 sisters. Her faith was strong and showed in all she did. She was caregiver to both parents through their last years on earth. Retha was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She prayed daily for each of them. She loved the Lord and her family with all her heart. She was an amazing prayer warrior, just like her dad. Thank you for this loving gift. Retha married the love of her life, John Hustad. Her father, Rev Clyde Nichols married them on January 11, 1958. They celebrated 60 years of marriage together before John passed away 6 years ago. They had 3 children, Mike, Terri, and Suzanne. Suzanne served as mom’s devoted caregiver in her final years, ensuring her comfort in the beautiful home they built together. Retha’s life was marked by numerous achievements, including working and volunteering at Lee’s Summit School District. She served as PTA president and actively volunteered in the classrooms for many years. She later worked at ‘My Favorite Things’, owned by her sister Ruth Green, whom she shared a very special bond with.
Retha is survived by her loving family: son Mike Hustad and wife, Pam; daughter Terri Schnakenberg, and husband, Mike; daughter Suzanne Taylor, and husband Jimmy. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren: Josh Hustad, wife Christy, their children, Jaycee, Ava & Jaxon. Kristen Baker, husband Chris, daughters, Kelsey, Kylie & Madison with sons Easton & Lain. Thomas Schnakenberg, wife Elizabeth, daughters Ella & Molly, Brian Schnakenberg, & Michelle Mae Schnakenberg. Drew Hague, and Ashley, sons Michael and Malachi. We will greatly miss our mom but find great comfort in knowing she is living eternally with her precious Savior, Jesus Christ.
Retha is celebrating and rejoicing in heaven with her husband John, parents, sisters, and many dear friends. Our hearts are happy knowing she is pain free and more than likely dancing the jitterbug and hearing Elvis Presley’s “Let Me Be Your Teddy Bear”. We will miss your beautiful smile and heart every day. Your love will be with us always. “Well done, good and faithful servant” – Matthew 25:21.
