Richard was born in Kansas City, MO on August 5, 1940 to parents Max W. and Linda L. (Ritter) Martin. He graduated from North Kansas City High School. In his younger days Richard worked in construction, but later went on to work for the U.S. Post Office from which he retired after 21 years.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially turkey and deer, as well as bowling and playing softball to age 65.
Richard leaves behind his son Richie; daughter, Nichole; brother, Mike; sister, Deborah; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Hannah, and Mitchell; and 5 great-grandchildren.
