

He was born to parents George and Nora Zans, on November 12, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri. Richard graduated from high school in Kansas City. He then served in the Armed Forces from January 1951 until he was honorably discharged in October 1956. Richard went on to further earn his B.S. Degree in Business Administration from Rockhurst College in 1976. He then worked successfully at government contract employers including Bendix and Libby Corporation.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, older brother and wife, John and Clara Zans and younger brother, Paul Zans. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Cory Woolery.
Richard is survived by son, Timothy Zans, daughter Ellen DeBoest and husband Timothy DeBoest, granddaughter Shannon Sheen and husband Clement Sheen, great grandson Kaidence Woolery, Sister-in-Law Janice Zans, one niece and four nephews.
Richard was known for his love of family and sports. He always looked forward to summer baseball with the Royals and fall football with the Chiefs. If not watching sports, he would be involved with the history channel or easy listening on his TV.
The visitation with be held on Saturday, November 5th from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. at McGilley Funeral Home on State Line Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Immediately following with a procession to Mt. Olivet Cemetery for interment.
