In Bob’s final days, his wife of 67 years, Jan, was by his side, and he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
Bob was born on September 18th, 1933 in Joliet, Illinois, and moved with his parents to Kansas City when he was still a child. The vast majority of his life was spent in K.C, where he graduated from Rockhurst High School. While in college, at the University of Kansas, he began dating Jan. Bob’s college years were interrupted by his service in the United States Army. Jan and he were married while he was stationed in Washington State. After Bob’s service, they returned home where he completed his education at the University of Kansas.
Bob spent most of his working life as a risk manager for Sprint and its predecessor United Telecom. Before that, he had been in risk management for Katz drug stores and Skaggs, as well as a claims adjuster for the General Adjustment Bureau. Bob’s true calling in life was as a husband, father, and papa. He never missed one of his kid’s sporting events or school plays. Every year, Bob packed the family up for the trek to the family cabin in Minnesota for vacation. Pelican Lake became one of his favorite places on the planet. He vacationed there with Jan and his children, their spouses, and grandchildren for 35 years.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Bea. He is survived by his loving wife Jan, his five children Kim (Ron) Gerber, Mark (Diana), Mike (Amy), Scott (Jill) and Steve (Jessie) and his eight grandchildren Sydney (Brandon), Carson, Emma, Ellie, Christopher, Meghan, Lily and Jacob.
