

Bob was born on Feb. 17, 1931 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Bert M. and Ruth L. Strickler. He graduated from Southeast High School in 1948 and from Kansas City Junior College in 1951.
After graduating high school, Bob worked for Hall Brothers and the U.S. Postal Service for several years. He attended the University of Missouri – Columbia, earning a bachelor’s degree in history in 1954 and a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1957. Bob was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society, Kappa Tau Alpha journalism honor society, Alpha Pi Zeta social science honorary society, and the Society of Professional Journalists.
Following graduation, he married Martha Jo Wiseman. Bob then worked for weekly newspapers in King City, MO, Spearfish, SD, and Harrisonville, MO before joining Western Auto Supply Co. in 1961. He worked for Western Auto in a variety of editorial and publication management capacities for more than 35 years before retiring in 1996. He served as program chairman for the Western Auto Retirees Club for several years.
After divorcing his first wife, Bob met and married Sue Weaver Herriman in 1974, with whom he lived the rest of his life. He enjoyed many interests including Mizzou and KC sports, history, Thomas Hart Benton artwork, jazz singers, and science fiction.
His survivors include his beloved wife, Sue W. Strickler, sons, Dave (Sue) Herriman and Kemp (Kristy) Strickler, and daughter, Linda Herriman. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Ryan Herriman (Kate Burkett), Sean Herriman, Ian (Raven) Herriman, and Kara Strickler (Jared Schultz), great grandchildren, Avery, Leo, and Grayson, sister-in-law, Joan Strickler and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert M. and Ruth L. Strickler and his brother, John K. Strickler.
