

Ronald Powell Sr., or “Ron” as he was known, departed this life on July 21, 2016. Ron was born on June 5, 1946, in Kansas City, KS, to Sammie and Unie Mae Powell, and he was the 3rd child of 9 siblings. Ronald was preceded in death by his father, Sammie Powell; his mother, Unie Mae Powell; his two brothers, Carl E. Powell and James A. Powell, and sister, Beverly Powell-Henderson. Ronald attended Douglas Elementary School, Northeast Jr. high School, and he graduated from Sumner High School in 1964. After graduation, Ronald enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Germany for four years. Ronald also attended a trade school in the Kansas City, MO area. In 1970, Ronald met Barbara Brashier and they were married in 1972. They have 2 children; Ronald Powell Jr. and Raina Powell, and 2 grandchildren: Zaria Smith and Elijah Smith, and they were married for 44 years. Ronald worked at Colgate Palmolive Company for 32 years where he retired with an excellent work record. He was also self employed as a top notched carpenter, and he was a very dedicated and hard worker who strived for perfection. Ronald was a very smart, strong, private, meticulous and kind hearted person. He was an excellent mathematician, and he could put anything together without even reading instructions. During his spare time Ronald loved working on cars, watching sports, listening to music, landscaping, playing cards and games, and traveling. He also loved being with his family and having a good time. Ronald will be greatly missed physically, however his spiritual presence in our loving memories of him will be with us for the rest of our lives. Ronald leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Barbara Powell, of Kansas City, MO; his children: Ronald Powell Jr, of San Diego, CA, and Raina Powell, of Kansas City, MO; his grandchildren: Zaria Smith and Elijah Smith, of Kansas City, MO; his brothers: Morris Powell, of Fresno, CA, and Sammie Powell Jr., of Kansas City, KS; his step brother, Phillip Jones, of Kansas City, KS; his sisters: Rosemary Love, of Kansas City, KS, Sandra Hogan, of Kansas City, MO, and Eunice Spencer of Kansas City, MO; his last surviving aunt, Margie Colley-Powell, of Bakersfield, CA, and a host of other family, relatives and friends. Funeral service will be 10am, Thursday, August 4, 2016, at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Committal service will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
