September 6, 1956 to August 30, 2023
Ronald Allen Shook, age 66, a long-time resident of Raytown, Missouri passed away Wednesday, August 30th, at Ignite Medical Resort in Blue Springs. Ronald was born at the US Army Hospital in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, the fourth of five children, to George Wesley and Janet Marie Shook. Ronald was preceded in death by his Father George W Shook, Sr, his Mother Janet M Shook, his Sister Sharon A Shook, and his Nephew Justin D Pearson.
Ronald grew up in Raytown, Missouri attending both Pittman Junior High and Raytown High School. As a youth, Ronald played football, and enjoyed confounding the lineman he was blocking by looking the opposite direction than he intended to go. Ronald was a hard-working adult, employed for a time as a roofer and then doing tree service for both Missouri and Iowa Power and Light. Ronald enjoyed many pleasures in life, including fishing, good BBQ, and the Kansas City Chiefs. In his final years, Ronald lived at Oak Grove Manor, Oak Grove, MO until entering long-term care in 2022. Ronald endeared himself to staff and residents alike, finding ways to express both his ornery and creative sides. Some of Ronald’s latest creations included rock painting, painting by numbers, dressing up, and decorating for the holidays. Ronald was a good judge of character and enjoyed making people laugh. Ronald took the initiative to advocate for the safety and dignity of care for the residents in his facility.
In April 2022, Ronald received the disappointing news that he would once again be entering long-term care. It was then that he began to grapple with his faith and eternity. Ronald made the decision to pray and ask God to forgive his sins. After this, he spent time praying, reading his Bible, and scanning the TV for broadcasts including the music and preaching of Lakewood Church. After his recent hospital stay, Ronald shared that God must be keeping him here for a purpose, to spread kindness. On August 30th, Ronald went to be with his Lord and Savior; purpose fulfilled.
Ronald is survived by his brother George W Shook, Jr of Kansas City, MO, sisters Juanita (Clayton) Smith of Lone Jack, MO, and Susan (David) Bane of Lanexa, VA; cousins Bill (Linda) Shook of Glendora, CA and Steve (Marcy) Piffer, John Piffer, and Kathi Pfeifer each of Indianola, IA; nephews Derek (Michelle) Wilson of Kansas City, MO, George W Shook, III of Overland Park, KS, Aaron Bane of Foley, AL, Joseph Ochs of Aztec, NM, and Zachary Whitfield and C-untis Gill both of Lanexa, VA; nieces Chrissy Striplin of Independence, MO, Brenda (Scott) Romano of Camdenton, MO, Shelley Edie of Kansas City, MO, Casey Panuco (Bobby Williams) of Independence, MO, Terra Pearson of Raytown, MO, Chyna Hull of Marshfield, MO, Sabrina (Daniel) Sheets of Fairhope, AL, and Debra Gill and Madison Whitfield both of Lanexa, VA; as well as 14 great and 4 great-great nephews and nieces.
