

Rosa Marie Schneider John, 97, Kansas City, Missouri died Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at St Joseph Medical Center. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2010, at First Baptist Church of Kansas City, Missouri on the corner of Wornall Road and Red Bridge, reception to follow in the fireside room. Rosa was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1912 in Newburgh Indiana, oldest child of Frederick Otto Schneider and Katherine Anna Roth Schneider. Rosa was preceded in death by her parents, sister Edna Schneider Johnson and husband J Forrest John. Her brother George Schneider and sister Laura Schneider Johnson still live in Newburgh, Indiana. After graduating business school in Evansville, Indiana, Rosa was employed at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. where she soon met her future husband, J Forrest John. They were married on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1935. The family remained in the Washington area until 1950 and raised four children. After their move to Grandview, Missouri, both Rosa and Forrest remained in government service until their retirements, Forrest in 1969 and Rosa in 1973. Rosa was active in the lives of the children but did return to work in their later school years, working for the U.S. Army and retiring from the FAA. Rosa was a den mother for two of her three sons, all three going on to achieve the Eagle rank, in scouting. As a life-long Christian, she was active in local church functions. After serving as a charter member of Bethel UCC (then Evangelical and Reformed) Church in Arlington, Virginia, she was a member of Grandview Baptist Church before coming to First Baptist Church of Kansas City just before its 1973 move to the Red Bridge location. She served as a Sunday school teacher and volunteer church Secretary. Rosa and Forrest lived next door to First Baptist from 1990 until 2002, when they moved to Kingswood Senior Living Community. Rosa has many friends at Kingswood and enjoyed her activities and relationships there. Rosa is survived by four adult children: Rosalie Danbury of Kauai, Hawaii, David John of Collierville, Tennessee, Paul John of Tempe, Arizona, and Thom John of Kansas City, Missouri and their spouses, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, extended family and many friends. She was preceded in death by infant daughter, May Lenore John. After the inurnment of remains at the Garden Walk of Memories, Mt Moriah Cemetery South in Kansas City, some of her ashes will be placed with those of her husband at their daughter’s gravesite in Weaubleau, Missouri.
