

Roy R. Dunlap, Founder and Director of SOR, Inc. in Lenexa, Kansas, died April 24, 2013 in Louisville, Colorado of complications from diabetes. He was born July 31, 1922 in Kansas City, Missouri, where he attended public schools and graduated from Lathrop Trade School. Following his discharge from the Navy in 1946, in his home basement Roy began his business that in 1951 was named MechniArts Associates. In 1967, with his development of a mechanical pressure switch that revolutionized the industry, the company was re-named Static “O” Ring. Now known as SOR, Inc., his company produces superior quality industrial instrumentation used around the world. In 2006, it was awarded recognition as one of the Top Ten Best Machine Shops in the United States. Roy will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to produce an excellent product with excellent service, but equally for his loyalty to and pride in his employees. His unwavering optimism, friendliness and generous heart will be missed, though his legacy will be carried forward by his family through their ongoing ownership of his company. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mable Kornfeld Dunlap, and his siblings, Emily Strickland and Carl Dunlap. He is survived by his children, David Dunlap, wife Colleen and children Ariana and Remington of Leawood, Kansas, Linda Dunlap, husband Matt Condon and children Ashley, Gareth and Kiana Grace of Longmont, Colorado, former wife, Roberta Dunlap of Longmont, Colorado, sister-in-law Engie Dunlap, and niece, Sherry Burns. Visitation at McGilley’s Funeral Home, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, Missouri, Thursday May 2nd from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Funeral services at the same location Friday May 3rd at 11:00 a.m. Private burial. The family has established a memorial in Roy’s honor at the Ozanam Center for Children, 421 E. 137th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64145, where he served as Chairman of the Board during Ozanam’s early years.
