

Roy Wayne Rupp, age 87, passed away at his home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri on July 20, 2016. Roy was born in St. Charles, Missouri on September 29, 1928. He finished his undergraduate studies at Northwest Missouri State College in 1951. He went on to receive his master’s degree in school administration, as well as his specialist degree at the University of Missouri in 1960 and 1964 respectively. Roy began his long, successful career in education by coaching and teaching in Elmo, Missouri from 1953 to 1954. From there, he held a variety of positions in schools throughout Missouri, including head basketball coach at Francis Howell High School in St. Charles from 1956 to 1960, Principal at Centralia High School from 1960 to 1962, and Principal of Brookfield High School from 1962 to 1966. In 1966, Roy was appointed Superintendent of Schools in Brookfield, Missouri. He spent 14 years managing Brookfield schools before moving to Kansas City, Missouri to serve as the Director of Buildings and Grounds for the Raytown School District. Roy retired in 1986. Roy, like so many others of his generation, proudly served his country in the United States Army and the United States Navy Reserves. He was a proud patriot. Roy’s main passion in life was his family. He loved being a husband and father, and dedicated his retirement years to helping raise his three grandsons. Roy also loved sports and was an avid outdoorsman. He often spent his free time hunting and fishing. Survivors include his loving wife, Sue Rupp; daughters, Jill Quinn and Julie Newbold of Kansas City, Missouri; grandsons, Daniel Quinn of Aiken, South Carolina, Andrew Newbold of San Francisco, California, and Matthew Newbold (Shannon Newbold) of Kansas City, Missouri; great-grandson, Hudson; sister Shirley Wallenbrock of Palm Desert, California. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
