

Russell C. Lewis, 93, of Raytown, Missouri, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2014. A visitation will be held 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. and funeral services at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, Missouri. Burial in Mount Moriah Cemetery South. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Red Cross, 211 West Armour Boulevard, Kansas City, Missouri, 64111.
Russell was born April 9, 1920 to Henry and Ada Bell Lewis in Independence, Missouri. After graduating from Paseo High School, he went on to attend Graceland College and Iowa State University, where he received his Architectural Engineering degree.
Russell worked for North American Aviation, Lewis Construction Co., and Bendix (now Honeywell). He also served in the United States Navy as Aviation Radio Technician 3rd class during WWII. After serving his country, Russell met and married the love of his life for 65 years, Lucille Graver. Russell was an avid golfer, fisherman, and traveler. He was a member of South Restoration Branch, a former member of Hillcrest Country Club and proud of his three hole-in-ones. The family extends their gratitude to the staff at the Forum for their compassionate care.
Russell was preceded in death by his three sisters, Velma Lewis, Lorene Marsh, and Vera Lewis. He is survived by his wife Lucille, daughters Cheryl (Avery) Reed, of Fort Scott and Debra (Don) Gilmore, of Lee’s Summit; five grandchildren: Kyle (Devon) Gilmore, Erica Gilmore Fletcher, Monica (Brian) Twombly, Nathan (Mary) Reed, and Elizabeth Reed; four great-grandchildren: Cole Lewis Gilmore, Jackson Douglas Gilmore, Samuel Avery Twombly, and Madelyn Grace Reed.
