Scott was born May 30, 1959 in Port Huron, Michigan. Scott enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1977 and spent four years as an E3 Seaman aboard the USS Prairie followed by two years of Naval Reserve duty. After the military, Scott began a career in construction that would last until his cancer diagnosis in 2016. He began working in Texas, but by 1988 made his way to the Kansas City area, where he remained for the rest of his adult life. He enjoyed woodworking, mushroom hunting, playing pranks, and spending time with his family and close friends. Some of the fondest memories of Scott are sled ramps off the deck and wet paper towel fights through the house, camping and fishing, the smell of chiseled wood in the garage, trench coat stilts, and "Jed Clampett dancing". He was there for any family member or friend who needed a hand and willing to give his last $10 to someone because they needed it more than him.
Scott was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Victor & Verna Howey, paternal grandparents Emery & Louise Hamilton, a brother Michael Willis, and two uncles Jim Howey & Bob Hamilton. Scott is survived by his parents Carol (Lorne) Willis, Jerry (Mary Paul) Hamilton, brothers Timothy Hamilton, Alex (Melissa) Willis, and Christopher Hamilton, sister Renee (Eric) Ruhlman, aunts Nancy Vincent, Bonnie Olary, and Linda Simpson, uncles Carman and Jean Hamilton, his former partner, long-time best friend, and care giver Melanie Rodriguez, daughter Bailey Hamilton and grandson Manuel (“George”), stepdaughters Amber, Alea, and Angel Smith and granddaughters Naiveah, Laila, Violet, and Toccoa, stepson John Rodriguez, and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. Scott was a loving father, grandfather, and friend.
To honor Scott’s military service and his admiration of children fighting cancer, in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Kansas City Veterans Community Project or the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
