Sharon Ann Powell

Born January 30, 1954, in Johnson County, KS, Sharon brought light and love to every corner of her world from the very start.

A proud graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School, Sharon found her calling in flowers—working for many years at Fields Florist. Her arrangements weren’t just bouquets; they were bursts of joy and reflections of the beauty she saw in God’s creation. Being a florist let Sharon blend artistry and faith, something she cherished deeply.

Sharon had a soft spot for furry friends and opened her heart to many beloved pets over the years—including her dear companions Delilah and Gracie. She was a nurturer by nature, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a warm hug. She was Rick’s devoted little sister and lifelong cheerleader, and her kindness stretched wide, giving rides to friends, showing up with a smile, and filling her calendar with moments of care.

Community was Sharon’s happy place. A lifelong member of Keystone United Methodist Church, she found strength and joy in her faith and her service. Whether singing hymns, serving with the United Methodist Women, or rolling up her sleeves for mission projects, Sharon was all in. She and her mom Claire were also proud members of P.E.O. Sisterhood, where Sharon stepped up as a local leader.

In her final chapter, Sharon made a beautiful home at Kingswood, quickly becoming a beloved neighbor and a building rep—of course! Making friends and spreading sunshine was just what she did.

Sharon lived her life with joy, purpose, and confidence in her faith. She was certain that Jesus would one day come to take her home—and she was ready. Her parting wish was for us to celebrate, not mourn. She said, “Make it peppy!” And so we shall, because Sharon has stepped into her new, eternal life with her heavenly family.

She was lovingly cared for in her final days by the incredible teams at KU Medical Center and Kansas City Hospice House, who helped usher her peacefully into God's timing.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Adaline (Lang) Powell and Kenneth Wade Powell, stepmother Claire (Pinney) Powell, and grandparents Warren B. Pinney, Sr. and Ruth B. Pinney.

She is survived by her brother Rick Powell of Kansas City; aunt Cynthia Pinney and her husband John McConnell of Elkland, MO; uncle Warren Pinney, Jr. and wife Linda Pinney of North East, MD; and her extended family through love—sister Pamela Collins and husband Dan, nieces Erica Green and Lauren Leverich, and nephew Bob Collins.

Celebration of Life Service: 11:00 AM

Location: Keystone United Methodist Church, 74th and Wornall, Kansas City, MO

A lunch gathering will follow at the church.

Graveside Service: Monday, June 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM
