

Sharon Kay Wicks, 65, passed away January 6, 2015 in Kansas City, MO at Garden Valley Manor under the care of Crossroads Hospice after a long struggle with kidney failure. Memorial services will be Friday, January 9 at 1:00 PM, McGilley Antioch Chapel. Services will be officiated by her brother, Deacon Richard “Dick” Billings.
She was born Sharon Kay Billings on November 11, 1949 in Waterloo, Iowa. She graduated from high school in Waukee, Iowa in 1967 and married Paul Wicks in 1969 in Adel, Iowa. Sharon had all 4 children while living in Iowa, including a planned home birth. When her children were young, she volunteered with the church and was very involved in La Leche League, serving as a Leader. In 1983 the family moved to Kansas City, MO. At age 40, Sharon pursued a life-long dream of becoming a nurse. She graduated from Penn Valley Community College with her Registered Nursing degree in 1993 and worked at various hospitals and nursing homes in the Kansas City area during her nursing career. She was a retired RN but always said her favorite job was being a mom to her 4 children.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Thelma “Jeanne” Billings; Sister Shirley (Billings) Anthony; and Brother Robert “Bob” Billings.
Sharon is survived by her sister Sherrel (Billings) Richmond of Newport, Oregon and her family; Brother Richard “Dick” Billings of Sioux City, Iowa and his family; Sister Sherriann Morgan of Des Moines, Iowa and her family.
She is also survived by her 4 children and 5 grandchildren: Lynn (Wicks) Baxter of Kansas City, MO and her daughter; Cindy (Wicks) Vincent of Springfield, MO and her daughter; Steve Wicks of Kansas City, MO his wife Dominique and their son; Lori (Wicks) Nunn of Springfield, MO and her husband Daniel and their 2 sons.
