She was born on February 16, 1952, in Marquette, Michigan, to Max and Janet Hendricks and moved to Kansas City, Mo., when she was a young girl. She graduated from Oak Park High School and later worked for Commerce Bank, North Kansas City School District and Walmart before retiring. She had three children to whom she was completely devoted: Sarah, who passed away shortly after childbirth, Jeff and Emily. Suanne truly cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, Grant and Blair, who were the light of her life.
Suanne had many passions and talents. She had a heart of gold, particularly when it came to animals, caring for many strays throughout her life. She LOVED dogs, especially her beloved Sissy Ho and Bella. She showed her creative spirit through many crafts, particularly through her beautiful sewing and intricate plastic canvas creations.
Suanne had a gift for bringing joy to those around her, to say she was a “hoot!” is an understatement. Her quick wit and infectious laughter made her the life of any party. She was also a great cook, always ensuring everyone had their favorite dish at family gatherings. Some of her favorite treats to make were fudge and Chex mix.
Suanne was deeply involved in her children's lives. In their elementary years, she was very active at Winnwood Elementary, as “room mom” all the way to serving as PTA president. She was also a Girl Scout mom, who created many memories with not just her own daughter but all the other girls in the troop. She was “The Nut Lady” for her sons Boy Scout Troop, making sure he was always one of the top sellers. As they grew older, she still showed her devotion well into their high school and college years. Many will remember her as the 50-yard line band mom with the cowbell at every football game, cheering on the Winnetonka Pride band. She also loved to attend Mizzou football games to cheer on Marching Mizzou. She poured her heart into making sure her children had every opportunity. She always did her best, and that was evident in everything she did.
In her most recent years, she still brought her gift of joy and laughter to her care team and fellow residents at her nursing facility. She kept them on their toes with her wit, “spicy” and “saucy” personality.
Suanne will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on in the laughter she shared, the love she gave and the countless lives she touched.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Sarah, and her sister Maxine Olsson.
Suanne is survived by her children Jeff (Rachel) Peine, Emily (Chip) Tooley, her grandchildren Grant and Blair Peine, her sister Mary Wallmark, and several nieces and nephews.
To honor Suanne's life, a visitation is scheduled from 11 am – 1 pm on Friday, March 28, at McGilley Antioch Chapel with funeral services to immediately follow and burial at Resurrection Cemetery. All are welcome to attend.
