Terry L. Cumberland, 79, Kansas City, Missouri, passed away surrounded by his loving family on July 13, 2025 at his home. Visitation for Terry will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 18th with the funeral services following at 2:00 p.m. at the Harmony Vineyard Church, 600 NE 46th Street, Kansas City, MO 64116. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the Parkinson’s Foundation (www.parkinson.org).
Terry was born on June 1, 1946, to George Edward and Patricia Jeanne (Post) Cumberland in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was a 1965 graduate of Ryan High School in Omaha, Nebraska. Later he received his bachelor’s degree from Park University, Parkville, MO. At a young age he began his career with the Union Pacific Railroad in Council Bluffs. He relocated to Kansas City to accept a position with Missouri Pacific Railroad. He transitioned to Transportation Communication Union. Upon retirement Terry was a lead director at the training facility of TCU.
Terry enjoyed bowling, including working at a bowling alley. He also enjoyed boating. Terry was a very avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. He was a very kind person, an encourager to others and especially enjoyed making people laugh. Terry lived a life devoted to Christ and serving others. Over the years he led several bible studies in his home and acted in various church Christmas plays. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Carol (Hensley) Cumberland; 4 sons, Kevin Cumberland (Robin), Kenny Cumberland (Lori), Kyle Cumberland, and Daniel Cumberland; 4 grandchildren, Tyler Cumberland (Kitty), Sami Hofer (Jacob), Matt Cumberland (Sydney), and Kennedy Cumberland; and 3 great- grandchildren, Jackson, Claire, and Lainey. Terry is also survived by his siblings, Barbara Jeanne Sawatzki (Jerry), Tim Cumberland (Connie), Kathy Kelley (Wesley), Mary Jo Markey (Tim), Tom Cumberland, Mike Cumberland, and Chris Craven (Keith).
