Tom was born December 24, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri to Tom and Merle Scott. He graduated from Ruskin High School in 1969 before attending the University of Central Missouri where he earned a Bachelors of Arts in Music Degree. While at UCM he became a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. Within the last year, Tom got to enjoy his brothers at their monthly luncheons.
Tom was a born salesman. He could build a relationship with anyone at any point. Throughout his career, he always found the person-to-person interaction to be the most impactful. When you met Tom, you made a friend.
Tom had such a caring personality, he always thought of others before himself. Tom cared for his parents as they aged and was wholeheartedly involved as a father and a grandfather.
Tom married his high school sweetheart, Julie, on November 20, 1976. Tom's love for Julie was evident in all the ways he supported her, especially her love for travel. In retirement, they planned as many adventures as time would allow. He loved traveling right alongside her. In 2017 Tom began showing his devotion to Julie through caring for her during her first fight with a brain meningioma. He kept her strong for eight long years before her death on May 31, 2025.
Tom is survived by his two daughters, Lauren Scott and Whitney Heinze (Daniel). He also leaves behind a grandson, Alexander and another grandchild arriving in October. Other survivors include his sister Susan Swearingin (Dennis), his sister-in-law Carolyn Overfelt Davis (Russ), brother-in-law Duane Baresel and his nephews and nieces. Tom leaves behind many close and cherished friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Tom and Merle Scott, in-laws Al and Beverly Spencer and sister-in-law, Cheryl Baresel.
Funeral services will be held at Newcomer's Floral Hills Funeral Home on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 2:30 pm. A visitation will be held at 1:00 pm prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the foundation of choice as Tom was into helping all.
