Treesa Georgean (McAfee) Baker, 92, went home to be with Jesus January 20, 2026. Treesa was born October 9,1933, near Fremont, MO. She grew up in a loving home with her parents, Homer and Cassie McAfee, along with five siblings: Herbie, Paul, Bessie, Goldie, and Christal. They did not live in abundance, but they danced, sang and made many wonderful childhood memories that Treesa often reminisced about.
On August 20, 1949, at age 15, Treesa married the love of her life Bert Anderson Baker. They were blessed with three children, Winfred (Winnie), Linda, and Patricia (Patty). They raised their children in South KC and were married for 65 wonderful years, a testimony of love to us all.
Treesa was a talented seamstress and was employed for many years by Aero Drapery. She designed and made intricate window treatments for top businesses and model homes in Kansas City. Treesa’s creativity was endless. She made clothing, quilts, dolls, and altered clothing - including many prom dresses for her granddaughters. Not only was she an accomplished seamstress, but she was also an expert baker. She made and decorated cakes for many occasions, but it was her famous blackberry cobbler that was always the talk of town…selling for a premium at charity auctions and lovingly fought over at gatherings.
Treesa was a very dedicated mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother. She attended school activities, sporting events, and birthday parties beaming with pride over her family. She was a “fun” Grandma and never said no to puzzles, games, dressing up Barbies, or playing with cars. She treasured her grandkids and wanted them around her all the time – taking care of them is what made her most happy.
Treesa was an avid sports fan faithfully cheering on the Royals, watching them every night during baseball season. She enjoyed fishing, and she would be proud to tell you (might even “crow” a little) that she broke Bert’s record for catching the largest fish, a 40-pound striper at Beaver Lake, reeling it in all by herself at the young age of 83! She was a Nintendo gamer – her favorites were Tetris and Dr. Mario.
Although Treesa had many talents and interests, the most important things to her were Jesus and her family. She was a prayer warrior who fiercely believed in the power of the Holy Spirit and never ceased praying for her family and others. Bert and Treesa attended Raytown Assembly of God and later became members of Calvary Assembly of God where she served as a Sunday School teacher and WM President, coordinating numerous events and funeral dinners with her best friends, Becky and Evelyn. She loved Jesus with her whole heart and wanted everyone to know Him too. She was never ashamed to share the Truth with others.
Treesa was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bert; and 4 siblings. She is survived by her sister, Christal Taber (Bob); son Winfred (Carol), and daughters Linda Hillix (Bill) and Patty Williams (Kevin). She is adored by her eight grandchildren: Wayne, Denise, Kim, Kristy, Clint, Amanda, Jacob, and Katie as well as her 16 great grandchildren: Kayla, Riley, Kelsy, Jacie, Danny, Emma, Ellie, Chelby, Bailey, Bridget, Brady, Bentley, Brock, Belle, Jackson, Baker and two great, great grandchildren, Kinsley Grace and Beau. She also leaves behind her “babies” Danny, Sara, and Nancy – who have been by her side and provided great joy and companionship these past couple years.
Thank you, Mom, for taking such good care of us and your constant prayers on our behalf. You loved us well, and you will live in our hearts forever.
