Vickie was born June 2, 1951 in Kansas City, MO to George Edward and Lillian Lucille (Barratt) Hollingsworth. She lived in the Kansas City area her entire life, graduating from Ruskin High School and spending her professional career at Hallmark Cards.
Vickie will forever be remembered for her amazing spirit of generosity. She gave of herself freely and was unapologetic in her care for others. She was intentional about improving the lives of those around her. She shared her time, talents, honesty, humor, and wisdom. She changed lives and all who knew her were transformed by her love. Vickie was fierce, in the best sense of the word – tenacious, focused, powerful, and determined. If she put her mind to doing something, she was going to accomplish it!
Vickie cherished both her Hollingsworth and Holman families deeply. She enjoyed gathering with family, sharing meals together, celebrating milestones, sending Hallmark cards and care packages, going to the casino, playing cards and fantasy football, and hoisting a beer. She enjoyed listening to music and travelling (but only in her car). She was also an artist, particularly known for her painted rocks. If you received a rock from Vickie, you knew you had hit the jackpot and you could sense the thoughtfulness, care, and love she poured into each creation.
Vickie loved sports, both as an observer and a participant. She liked watching the Chiefs, women’s college and professional sports, and KU athletics. She also enjoyed playing sports including bowling, softball, golf, and her most recent endeavor, pickleball. Vickie was playing pickleball long before pickleball was cool! She relished the challenge, enjoyed the competition, took joy in introducing others to the game, loved the camaraderie, and cherished the many friends who entered her life through the sport.
Vickie was a dedicated, loyal friend who always had your back. Her life was enriched by a legion of loving, stalwart friends, many of whom she had known for decades. She cultivated her friendships in a variety of ways through her work, sports, social circles, or just chatting at the bar. When she became ill with cancer, there were swarms of people willing to step in and do whatever they could to ease her burden, giving back to her a portion of the love she gave them.
Vickie began her career at Hallmark Cards right out of high school in 1969, working as an order selector. While working full-time, Vickie attended night school at Rockhurst College for eight years to earn her BA degree. She retired from Hallmark in 2007 as an IT Director of Support, having worked there her entire 36-year career. In both her personal and professional life, Vickie was known for her dedication, hard work, and honest, direct communication. You always knew where you stood with Vickie! She could also make you laugh with her dry humor, often unleashing it when it was least expected.
Vickie is preceded in death by her parents, her loving partner Donna Holman, brother Steven Hollingsworth and sister Mary Hollingsworth, sister-in-law Rachel Hollingsworth, and nephew Philip Hollingsworth. She is survived by her brothers James Hollingsworth of Kansas City, KS and Timothy Hollingsworth (Sheryl) of Belton, MO. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, members of her Holman family, and her extended family of loving friends. Vickie was a kind, generous, gentle soul who will be greatly missed.
