Vincentine (Sis) Marie (Zaner) Stockman, passed away in a state of rest the morning of August 3rd, 2024 at 83 years of age. In her last days, devoted care from her children and visits from family and friends reminded her of our tremendous love for her. Sis left to follow the love of her life, her dear husband Ray - she always insisted on being by his side. Sis will be remembered for her persistence, strength, and her fierce love as a wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend.
Sis was born to Daniel and Vincentine (Doc and Jenny) Zaner on February 9th, 1941. She was the third of nine siblings whom she loved deeply: Don (deceased) and wife Fran (deceased), Sr. Kathleen (deceased), Dan and wife Susan, Bob and wife Teresa, Tom (deceased) and wife Roberta, Jim and wife Cookie, Margie, and Charlie and wife Judy. Sis adored her many nieces and nephews and always looked forward to family gatherings and visitors at home.
Even in her youth, Sis loved to stay involved. She was dedicated to the Sisters of Charity and her Catholic faith, a spirited singer in the choir, and loved to play softball. She met the love of her life, Ray, in their school days. After graduating from Bishop Hogan High School, they married and began a lifetime of companionship and commitment.
With Ray, Sis was the proud mother of four children and loved to be a supportive presence in everything they did. She was a Picture Lady, Block Mother, a Boy Scout Den mother, a Girl Scout leader, and a Band-Aide. Sis had a profound faithfulness to her family. Not only was she her kids' biggest cheerleader, but she also cooked wonderful meals which brought everyone to the dinner table each night. For her family, Sis had a love like no other.
Sis was also devoted to her community. Alongside Ray, Sis spent countless hours volunteering at the Raytown Rice-Tremonti historic home. At Our Lady of Lourdes, she devoted herself to the Altar Society, funeral luncheons, and countless other church activities. After her children were grown, Ray and Sis took over Florence Statuary, a beloved local business that brightened lawns and gardens across the area. It was a delight for them to spend their later years meeting and helping others; the lovely stones and statues are enduring reminders of their care.
Sis loved flowers; one of her favorite pastimes was looking after her garden in quiet appreciation of each day. She tended to her family with the same tough love and appreciation. She spoiled her grandchildren with treats, toys, and gifts. She made every Easter a fond memory; arranging elaborate treasure hunts and giving every grandkid a heaping Easter basket. On holidays, she'd host and prepare sensational feasts. Everything was special where Sis was concerned. Nothing was more valuable to her than the company of those she loved.
Sis leaves behind a bevy of dear friends and family that will miss her sorely. She is remembered by her sons, Ray and wife Kathy, Steve, Mike and wife Anna; and her daughter, Kathy and husband Tom. She was a dear grandmother of ten: Kelsey, Steven, Thomas, Alec, Rachel and husband Keenan, Sam, Anna, Grace, and Joy. She was also a doting great-grandmother to Vivian Vincentine, daughter of Rachel and Keenan.
Sis was unforgettable! She was a well of extraordinary love, a force to be reckoned with, witty, attentive, honest, and brave - Sis was beyond compare. The place she leaves is one of powerful, unwavering love. We will miss her tough love, her cooking, her snarky remarks, her tight embrace, her exclamations, her reprimands, her goodbyes, and every precious day we had the privilege of spending in her company. The immensity of her devotion echoes back to us still. She has left us with an enduring warmth. We can return to her in memories of sharing laughter over ice cream and telling stories in the kitchen, in the sight of a beautiful garden, in second helpings of lasagna and in cold Christmas nights spent in the sanctuary of our loved ones' company. We love you, Sis. We will never stop missing you.
We would like to thank our wonderful extended family and countless friends that have helped us all through this delicate time in our lives. We would also like to thank One Community Hospice, once again, for their wonderful care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to “Sisters in Jesus the Lord”.
This beautiful tribute was lovingly penned by Sis’s granddaughter, Grace Ryan.
