Ginny was born February 3, 1942, in Kansas City, the daughter of Art and Sue Gillum Johnson. She attended Kansas schools locally and graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing. She went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts-Health Administration from Ottawa University. She was employed by St. Luke’s Hospital, Trinity Lutheran Hospital, and Truman Medical Center and was instrumental in founding and administration of the Westport Free Health Clinic.
She retired from nursing 20 years ago and became a self-trained multi-media artist, showing in galleries in Parkville, MO and Overland Park, KS.
As a child, Ginny enjoyed frequent train rides with her mother to her grandparents in Knob Noster, MO; later, she loved to travel, camp with her dogs and spend time walking on the Lake Superior breakwater on Presque Isle in Marquette, MI. Music was an overpowering part of her life, beginning with 60’s Rock and Roll and the folk genre, and she danced through many a concert. Later, she was active in the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association, working to make the area a safer place. Until her death, she could be found on her porch on warm afternoons with her favorite glass of wine.
Survivors include her sister, Linda Johnson Gronquist (David), nieces Julie Gronquist Blodgett (Clifford) and Jessica Gronquist Clark (Darius), Kansas City; one great-niece and four great-nephews.
